For Y'all Steve Hackett - 1999 The Tokyo Tapes

The Tokyo Tapes is ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett's alive album featuring a progressive rock supergroup line-up of John Wetton (from King Crimson, UK, Asia), Chester Thompson (from Weather Report, Frank Zappa, Genesis live), Ian McDonald (from King Crimson, Foreigner) in addition to rounded out yesteryear keyboardist Julian Colbeck (worked alongside Yes spin-off Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe). The album was compiled from 2 concerts at Koseinenkin Hall inwards Tokyo, Nihon on sixteen & 17 Dec 1996. The album likewise contains 2 Steve Hackett studio tracks.
In 2001, a alive DVD likewise called The Tokyo Tapes in addition to culled from the same 2 performances was released. It contained all 17 alive tracks addition xviii minutes of bonus rehearsal footage in addition to band biographies.
Both the CD in addition to the DVD were promoted alongside the tagline: "What would it audio similar if occasional members of GENESIS, KING CRIMSON, ASIA, YES, ZAPPA & WEATHER REPORT all got together to cast a unique squad merely for ane night?"

Soon later completing tumble out Watcher of the Skies, Steve Hackett conceived of a serial of concerts involving many of the musicians from the Genesis project, to live on recorded for a exceptional alive release. This two-disc laid upwardly from a Dec 1996 functioning inwards Tokyo is the terminate result. The band personnel await similar potential candidates for a Prog Rockers: Where Are They Now? TV special, alongside Hackett joined yesteryear John Wetton (formerly of Asia), Ian McDonald (King Crimson), in addition to Chester Thompson in addition to Julian Colbeck (touring alum of Genesis in addition to Yes, respectively). The laid upwardly listing includes many Genesis songs, every bit good every bit several taken from Hackett's solo archive. Most of the songs differ considerably from their studio versions, either through vastly altered arrangements or extended instrumental sections. Wetton does a fine chore on Pb vocals, the ane exception beingness his solo acoustic reworking of the Asia mega-hit "Heat of the Moment"; the novel version alongside updated lyrics sounds embarrassingly frail. This is a tiddler misstep, however. Tokyo Tapes is easily the definitive Steve Hackett alive collection available to date, in addition to it's a welcome add-on to whatever fan's collection.
