In the early on 1980s, Steve Vai had but moved to California too bought a menage inwards rural Sylmar California. At the time, it was a identify amongst to a greater extent than animals than people. Steve's picayune menage out inwards the wilderness, was a identify where wayward musicians tin come upwardly too telephone cry upwardly home. One of those musicians living at the house, was Marty Schwartz, Steve's friend from his Berklee School Of Music Days. When Steve broke his whammy bar during a gig inwards the Berklee recital hall, he asked if anyone had a spare safe band, thats when a faint phonation came from audience "Iv'e got i for yous Steve!", that was the outset fourth dimension Steve met Marty.
In Steve's backyard, filled amongst chickens, ducks, too other diverse farm animals, Steve's outset manus built studio, called Stucco Blue, was the nascency identify of, ''Western Vacation''. This album was created past times Marty, too features a handful of Frank Zappa alumni, including keyboardist Tommy Mars, Vocalist Bob Harris, too Steve Vai, who was listed equally the ''Reckless Fable'' on the ''Western Vacation'' track. Other musicians that played on this album were, Chris Frazier on drums, too Jac Mihanovic on bass.
''Western Vacation'' takes yous on a progressive musical journeying amongst uplifting melodic textures too dynamic musicianship! Bob Harris's phonation is equally sweetness equally a carmine velvet cupcake too the melodies on this tape are too then delicious. This album has been beautifully re-mastered inwards the ''Audio Laundry Mastering Lab'' inwards Steve's Encino studio, from the original 8 rails tapes! This deluxe reissue features a wonderful booklet featuring a examine from Steve Vai too legendary author too publicist Laurel Fishman.
Listen to Western Vacation too run into if yous tin move transported to the idyllic 1980's inwards Sylmar. ''This captures that fourth dimension too identify amongst those wonderful friends,'' -Steve Vai.
I genuinely worked at the tape pressing manufactory where this was originally pressed (yes...that agency vinyl) too roughshod inwards dear amongst it on outset hearing dorsum inwards the belatedly eighties. This is to a greater extent than or less great, swell playing...an event of what tin hand when the musical stars align. This is a swell snapshot of immature musicians playing for each other too for fun. As a drummer, I nevertheless notice inspiration inwards this album...twenty-odd years later!
This band is made upwardly of a bunch of Steve's friends too Zappa alumni too was recorded inwards Steve's garage inwards the early on 80's. It sounds similar the fun Zappa materials from prior to this recording too is equally good reminiscent of Steve's solo run from that era on Flex-Able. Even though Steve evidently alone played on the championship rails his influence on the compositions too guitar run is clear. Or mayhap it is the other way around. Either way, a neat glimpse dorsum at a number of talented artists. Thanks for sharing.
Western Vacation is a swell album! I mainly purchased it because Steve Vai is non alone my mentor, but my guitar instructor equally well. I wanted to hear his early, early, plant too hither it is! This album wreaks an awesome 80's vibe too brings dorsum many memories on such an awesome fourth dimension for rock! Steve's(Reckless Fable) guitar solo on the championship rails is astounding! The vocals are rattling bubble paste 80's style, but difficult to halt listening to! You purchase this album too it volition genuinely select yous dorsum to early on 80's fourth dimension period. Overall the music is awesome, Bass is killer, too yous won't move disappointed! A+++ inwards my book!
